The Cape May Cares Mentorship Program is a new program geared to promoting the children’s overall well-being by inviting community members to share their particular professions, talents, hobbies and interests to encourage the children’s individual development, growth opportunities and better social experiences. Many of our tutors become mentors in that they participate in activities outside their one hour tutoring weekly obligation to provide wider educational experiences for their students. Business community members who have stepped up to provide summer and part-time job opportunities give our teens invaluable real work experience and encourage discipline and self-esteem. Successful professionals offer career advice and guidance. We are most proud of our local teen volunteers who have created fun activities to help those children and teens who live in the Cape May Housing Authority who are at risk for social isolation and its negative consequences. The opportunities and ways to mentor are extremely rewarding and as varied as our community.
