Cape May Cares celebrated the start of summer with an end of school celebration on June 17th. We had a phenomenal turn out, with about 70 people attending. This included the Mayor of Cape May (Zach Mullock), City Council members such as Lorraine Baldwin, the Cape May Police Department, and Cape Island Bike Rentals.
It’s all about having fun… safely!
We didn’t forget that having fun this summer should be done safely. The Cape May Police Department joined the celebration to give a free bike safety class, as well as sampling their skills in volleyball. CMPD explained their new ‘ticketing’ system: if kids are seen riding their bikes with helmets on, they get a ‘ticket’ for a free ice cream, pizza, or other summer treat! Of course, safety is cool.
And those who didn’t abide by the helmet safety rules were taken away… Just kidding!
Ready to ride!
After learning about safety, the children then received FREE helmets from Cape Island Bike Rentals. We are so appreciative for such generosity! Cape Island spent the afternoon joining in on the fun and answering any extra questions. What an amazing donation!
Snacks, sun, and getting soaked.
To top it off, a Mr. Softie ice cream truck was on site handing out free ice cream to everyone. And if that didn’t keep the kids cool enough, there was also a slip and slide, along with a bounce house obstacle course. Talk about starting off summer the right way!
Keep the fun coming – Join our Summer Program!
We want to keep the momentum moving forward, and are ecstatic to share that we are running a summer program from June 28 to August 13. The program will run Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10am to 12pm. Everyday will be filled with different activities, from crafting and treasure hunts to sports and games!
Contact our Activities Coordinator, Barbara, to join! Reach her via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
We are also partnering with the Corinthian Yacht Club again, and are able to send about 8 children to sailing camp this summer. The Cape May Tennis Club will also be allowing us to send a few children to tennis camp. These activities have been extremely successful the last few years, and we are excited to share them with the community again.
It is going to be a jam-packed, fun-filled summer, and we look forward to having you join us along the way!
